Guide Right Program The purpose of this program is to assist high school seniors to choose and pursue useful careers, consistent with the intent of achievement.
The Gaithersburg/Rockville, MD Alumni Chapter’s Guide Right Program is with the National Center for Children and Families’ (NCCF). NCCF is a private, nonprofit agency committed to serving vulnerable children, youth and families in the national capital area, for nearly a century. The chapter adopted NCCF’s Greentree Adolescent Program which is a high intensity learning facility that provides a residential community for male adolescents (ages 13-20 years) who do not live with their families due to: long standing family problems, histories of abuse and/or neglect, and significant behavioral and adjustment difficulties. We provide mentoring activities that give the adolescents exposure to cultural stimulus and role models.
St. Jude Sunday of Hope Initiative – Sunday of Hope is a program benefiting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital® sponsored by the men of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. This program was adopted by Kappa Alpha Psi’s Grand Board to give members across the country a way to unify their efforts in support of St. Jude.
The Sunday of Hope program is implemented in churches across the country. Kappa members work with churches in their local communities to identify one Sunday during the months of January through April to host a Sunday of Hope. Kappa members will get up in front of the congregation to spread awareness about the mission of St. Jude and ask for a special donation in honor of the many sick children fighting for their lives.
The Kappa Youth & Community Outreach Foundation – of Gaithersburg/Rockville is the chapter’s nonprofit, 501(c) 3 program. This program provides book and tuition scholarships to deserving students and other organizations in the Gaithersburg/Rockville community.
Other contributions include annual sponsorship of a needy family during the Christmas holidays, Christmas toy drive and the assistance in organizing and volunteering with the NAACP.
